Amager, Denmark

Beautiful beaches might not be the first thing you think of when you think of Denmark, but when on the small island of Amager that's exactly what you get! The island lies southwest of central Copenhagen, and is the home of Copenhagen Airport, as well as the beautiful little fishing Hamlet of Dragor.

Getting to Amager

Once you reach Copenhagen Airport, you can take a train or Metro to Amager. Metro and train stations are situated in terminal 3 at the airport. Alternatively, you can take one of a number of buses to Amager, which travel to and from the airport.

Attractions and activities in Amager

Although Amager does not have a huge number of attractions, there are still plenty of interesting things to keep her visitors busy. The old town in Dragor’s hamlet for instance, with its cobbled streets, and quaint little old yellow houses with red tiled roofs, is absolutely charming, and your time will be well spent too, if you take a stroll through the beautiful forest.

There are a couple of interesting museums, as well as several old fortresses which are also worth exploring, and of course, the beaches, where plenty of water-related activities are always happening. These include wind surfing, water skiing, kayaking, diving, as well as volleyball.

When to visit

The best time to visit is during summer, from March to September, when the weather is perfect for doing just about anything on the island.
